The Clarington Animal Shelter is now open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., to purchase animal licences and drop off adoption applications. If you have found a stray or lost animal, please call the Animal Shelter to make arrangements to bring the animal in.
To adopt an animal, fill out an online application with the animal ID and name of the animal you would like to adopt. We will contact you to discuss the animal’s needs, personality and ideal forever home. We may also provide a video of the animal. Before you arrive to pick up your adopted pet, you must book a date and time, and the handover will be contactless. Please call the animal shelter when you arrive to allow for COVID-19 screening before you enter the shelter. No one is allowed past the locked doors in the lobby unless an appointment is made to visit an animal and your application is approved. Only one member of the household may attend a meet and greet.
Adoption hours are Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Adopt a dog: $95
Adopt a cat: $130
Adopt a small animal: Donation-based. There is no fee to adopt a small animal. However, we ask that new pet owners give a donation of their choice when adopting a small animal.
If cats or kittens are too young to be spayed or neutered, we will provide a $75 rebate certificate once the owner provides proof of the spay or neuter within 120 days of the adoption date.
Both cats and dogs will be micro-chipped and have their first vaccine. You will also receive a free Clarington municipal pet licence.
Use the adoption search tool below to find pets at the Animal Shelter that are available for adoption. Please include the animal ID on your adoption application. Applications can only be submitted for animals at the Animal Shelter. We do not keep applications on file.

We encourage all family members, including dogs, to participate in the meet and greet portion of the adoption process to ensure your chosen pet is the right fit for your entire family. Once you meet the dog of interest, you can bring your dog in for a second visit.
Ace and Nora are available to adopt as a bonded pair. Ace is an Akita-cross, and Nora is a cane corso-cross. Ace can be standoffish and sometimes forgets his manners and jumps for attention. Nora loves attention and pets and will also jump up.
