Clarington Mayor's statement on Bowmanville Hospital donation

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.

“Clarington is investing in the health and well-being of our residents, with a historic $7.5 million donation to the redevelopment of Bowmanville Hospital. Council pledged these funds years ago, and earlier this year, we accelerated the first half, $3.75 million, to get a first-class hospital here faster. I’m proud to share that with this second $3.75 million installment, we’ve fulfilled our promise and delivered the remaining funds that will help the hospital enhance care, comfort, and outcomes for the people who rely on it most. This is a great day in Clarington.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the hospital’s redevelopment, which has been more than 20 years in the making. This will more than double its size, expand inpatient and ambulatory care services and the emergency department. This matters because everyone in Clarington needs and deserves life-saving care close to home.

We’re honoured to support the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and Lakeridge Health as they work to build a state-of-the-art hospital here in our community. Thank you to every Clarington resident and business owner who is supporting the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s ‘We Care, We Can’ campaign. Together, we’re transforming local health care for generations to come, and that’s something we can all be proud of.”

At the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s Annual General Meeting, Mayor Adrian Foster and members of Clarington Council joined Maria Petri, CEO of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, and Cynthia Davis, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation Board members, and Lakeridge Health leaders to present the second $3.75 million cheque, fulfilling Clarington’s historic $7.5 million donation to the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment.
