Clarington Mayor's statement on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement. 

“Today, we reflect on the devastating impact of the residential school system on Indigenous Peoples in Canada. We remember and honour the children who never returned home and the Survivors. With open eyes and heavy hearts, we look back at a dark chapter in our history that sought to erase the languages, traditions, and stories of the first communities and cultures of our nation. 

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation isn’t about stagnant reflection on the past; it also pushes us forward along the path toward reconciliation with Indigenous communities. I would encourage everyone to honour this day by visiting the Orange Ribbon Reflection Space outside the Courtice Community Complex, or exploring www.clarington.net/NDTR to continue learning about reconciliation. I hope today inspires each of us to step with understanding, respect and inclusion into a more hopeful future.”
