Clarington starts spring cleaning operations to clear sandy roads

Clarington has begun spring street sweeping operations to clear sand left behind from winter road maintenance.

This past winter brought heavier snowfall, along with a regional salt shortage. To maintain safe driving conditions while conserving salt supplies, a salt‑sand mix was used more extensively than in a typical year. As a result, residents may notice more sand on roads this spring.

Clarington Street Sweeper

Street sweeping is now underway across the municipality as part of Clarington’s regular spring cleaning and road maintenance program. Crews are working through neighbourhoods to remove accumulated sand and debris. Residents may see and hear sweepers moving through their area as this work continues. Because of the volume of sand and the impact of weather early in the season, sweeping progresses gradually as crews move safely and methodically through all neighbourhoods.

Under normal conditions, Clarington completes two full rounds of street sweeping between spring and fall, covering approximately 1,000 lane kilometres per round. The first round of sweeping is anticipated to be finished by July 1, weather permitting.

We appreciate your patience as this seasonal cleanup continues.
