Construction Notice: Accessibility improvements coming to downtown Bowmanville
Clarington is working to improve accessibility and safety across the community. This fall, work will begin to improve accessibility at the intersections of King Street and Temperance Street, and King Street and Division Street in downtown Bowmanville.
What does the work include?
- Replacing concrete sidewalks and curbs to ensure smooth, accessible surfaces for walking, rolling and wheeling.
- Installing tactile walking surface indicators to improve intersection safety for blind and low vision pedestrians.
- Installing accessible pedestrian signals with audible cues and pushbuttons to make crossing easier for all pedestrians.
- Traffic line painting and other associated restoration work to clearly define crossing areas and enhance overall safety at the intersections.
What are the impacts?
To protect the public and ensure safety, construction will be limited to one or two corners of each intersection at a time. Access to pedestrian crossovers will be restricted during construction. Appropriate signage and detour directions will be posted before any closures.
What is the timeline?
The work is expected to take approximately four to six weeks to complete. Timelines are approximate and may vary depending on weather and other factors. While construction may be disruptive at times, we ask for your patience to complete the work.
