Lakeshore Road in Newcastle to close beginning April 10, 2026

Starting April 10, Lakeshore Road will be closed between Boulton Street and Riley Road.

Soft road closures are in place at Metcalf Street and Mill Street and Lakeshore Road and Stephenson Road, with a hard road closure at 3636 Lakeshore Road. A signed detour from Metcalf Street to Stephenson Road is in place to help drivers navigate the area.

Please note: Hard road closures block the entire road, preventing motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles from passing. Soft road closures allow local traffic to access homes, businesses, or properties up until the point of a hard road closure.

The road is being closed as a precaution to protect public safety following engineering assessments that identified potential erosion issues near the roadway.

Clarington is continuing active monitoring and will engage engineering specialists to design interim stabilization measures, with construction targeted for 2026.
