Mayor’s statement on successful Darlington refurbishment

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.

“This is a proud moment for Clarington as we celebrate the successful completion of Darlington’s refurbishment in our community. The refurbishment is something that few in the global nuclear industry would have believed possible: completed ahead of schedule, under budget, and executed with world-class precision. That success is no accident. 

This project began with the Province’s vision for clean, reliable, and affordable power. With high stakes, Ontario Power Generation had to get it right, and they did. This success is thanks to the grit and discipline of the world’s best nuclear workforce. Day in and day out, skilled tradespeople, engineers, and project teams showed how capable the crews are. 

To everyone who pitched in, all those who wore a badge, turned a wrench, inspected a system, or solved a problem: Thank you. You haven’t just delivered an extraordinary project, but you also reinforced Ontario’s reputation as a place that builds, leads, and delivers.

Right now, all eyes are on Darlington. From refurbishment to advancing medical isotopes, building Small Modular Reactors and exploring a fusion research centre, our fast-growing nuclear sector puts Clarington right at the cutting edge of nuclear innovation.”
