Mayor's statement for Indigenous History Month
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“Indigenous History Month is an opportunity to strengthen our understanding of the Indigenous Peoples who have shaped, and continue to shape, our community and our country.
We live and work on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas and Chippewas of the Anishinabeg, known today as the Williams Treaties First Nations. We acknowledge their resilience throughout historic injustices and their continued strength, often in the face of ongoing discrimination. This month and all year, we can demonstrate our respect by engaging meaningfully with Indigenous communities and learning from them.
If you’re looking for ways to learn more about Indigenous history and culture, check out the programs that CLMA has this month.”
