Municipal investments in parks and playgrounds across Clarington
Clarington loves to play! In 2023, the Municipality of Clarington invested in new parks and upgrades to playgrounds. Here’s a look at all the park improvements that took place across Clarington this year.
Burketon Park, Burketon
We replaced the playground at Burketon Park with play units for all ages, wood fibre safety surface, new swings, benches and improved paths and walkways for accessibility.
Harvey Jackson Park, Kendal
Kendal’s Harvey Jackson Park was updated with play units for all ages, swings, wood fibre safety surface, new benches and improved accessibility features, including a paved walkway and a new accessible parking space.
Guildwood Park, Bowmanville
The tennis courts at Guildwood Park got an upgrade with new asphalt, nets, painted lines and acrylic surface treatment. The Municipality also installed new benches, waste bins and fencing.
Haydon Hall Parkette, Haydon
The Municipality of Clarington worked with Haydon Hall board members to update the Haydon Hall Park that was more than 36 years old. New playground equipment, new benches, picnic tables and an accessible path from the parking lot were welcome additions to this rural community.
Ina Brown Parkette, Newtonville
The playground area was enlarged, wood fibre safety surface was added and new playground equipment for all ages was installed. Swings and a bench were also added, as well as improved accessibility with a concrete ramp and paved walkways directly to the playground.
Peters Pike Parkette, Orono
The playground was upgraded with a new junior/senior combination play unit; new benches, swings and wood fibre safety surface. The walkway was also repaved throughout the park.
Bruce Cameron Park, Bowmanville
The new Bruce Cameron Park includes a fully accessible play pod with playground equipment, ramps, wood fibre safety surface and a shade structure.
Stuart Park, Courtice
Stuart Park is now home to Courtice’s first outdoor pickleball courts. Park upgrades also included basketball court resurfacing; new benches, wastebins, and fencing; paved pathways; and tree planting.
Cricket Pitch at Memorial Park, Courtice
In response to local demand, Clarington Council voted to support the development of outdoor cricket play, and staff collaborated closely with the community to make the facility a reality. The cricket pitch opened in the summer.
Brookhill Park, Bowmanville
This brand-new park includes accessible playground equipment for people of all abilities, wood fibre safety surfacing to reduce barriers to play, and a gazebo to provide shade. New benches and landscaping round out the park installation.
