Statement from Mayor Foster on International Transgender Day of Visibility
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“International Transgender Day of Visibility is a time to recognize and celebrate the experiences, contributions and strength of trans and gender-diverse people in our community. It’s a chance to support one another and acknowledge the many ways people live authentically.
Visibility helps build understanding, connection and belonging. Trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary people are part of our community and shared awareness helps all of us work together to challenge transphobia.
Everyone’s journey is their own. Being open about one’s identity is not safe or possible for everyone, especially in the face of discrimination. Clarington does not tolerate hate and stands firmly against all forms of discrimination. We’re committed to being a place where everyone is treated with dignity and feels safe being who they are, free and proud.”
