Weather impacts and localized flooding in Clarington
Recent weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds, have caused localized flooding in parts of Clarington.
Wind gusts created high waves on Lake Ontario. Some houses in the Cedar Crest Beach Road area experienced basement flooding due to the high waves.
On Saturday, Clarington Emergency and Fire Services canvassed homes along Cedar Crest Beach Road to support residents, provide access to and assist with sandbags, check sump pumps and assess any other needs. As of Sunday morning, wind conditions have changed, reducing large waves, and water has subsided in this area. Teams continue to monitor the situation on scene.
At this time, impacts remain localized, and no widespread flooding is expected. However, shoreline conditions can change quickly depending on weather and wave activity.
Public safety is the top priority. Residents around rivers, streams and shoreline areas are encouraged to:
1. Stay back from the water, including beaches, trails, and bluffs, as conditions can be unstable.
2. Use caution around flooded areas.
3. Monitor local conditions and updates, including Flood Watch notices from Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA).
Water may pool on roads in low-lying areas across Clarington. Please drive with caution and respect posted road closures.
