What's up in Clarington? - Winter 2022

New customer centric ground floor at the Municipal Administrative Centre in Bowmanville.

New citizen-centric ground floor

Clarington’s newly renovated citizen-centric ground floor has been unveiled at Town Hall. Front-line staff from throughout the building are now on one level and ready to help! Some of the services that can be accessed include:

  • Payments (property taxes, parking tickets, etc.)
  • Permits and licensing (building permits, marriage licences)
  • General information about municipal services.

Visit www.clarington.net/groundfloor for more information.

An easier way to call in

It’s now easier than ever to reach the staff member or department you need thanks to Clarington’s new phone system. When calling the Municipality at 905-623-3379, you no longer need to know the extension of the person or department you want to reach. The new voice-automated system uses speech recognition, so callers can simply ask for the staff member, service name or department, they need.

The Mayor’s Levee

Celebrate the New Year at the Mayor’s Levee on Sunday, January 8, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Newcastle Community Hall. You won’t want to miss out on this family-fun, community event to celebrate the New Year and the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Newcastle Community Hall.

Visit www.clarington.net/MayorsLevee for more details.

Clarington Public Library Book Advent Calendars

Across Clarington, families are counting down to the holidays with new literary advent calendars from the Clarington Public Library. Families who signed up for the Book Advent Calendars received 24 wrapped holiday and winter-themed books in early December. Each day they can unwrap a board book, easy reader, or picture book and enjoy reading it together. The new program proved popular with local families; the registration and wait list were fully booked by early November.

The latest on the GO Train

Groundwater and soil samples from Metrolinx lands in Courtice and Bowmanville are being analyzed as part of the ongoing work to expand GO Train service from Oshawa, through Courtice and into Bowmanville. The results from the testing will help inform future station improvement works.

Metrolinx is in the process of hiring a construction manager to oversee the Bowmanville GO Train Expansion Project.

Have your say. Metrolinx will be hosting the next Public Information Centre for the project in early 2023. Residents will be able to ask questions and offer input, virtually and in-person. Details of the meeting will be posted on the Bowmanville Extension Project page on www.metrolinx.com.
