Mayor's statement on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.

“Today, Clarington stands proudly with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the ongoing fight for equality and respect. On the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, we recognize that far too many people face discrimination, harassment and hate because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression.

Our Municipality is committed to supporting safe spaces, building opportunities for learning and understanding and championing a just and inclusive society. Inclusion is a shared responsibility. We must keep working together to call out discrimination wherever it shows up, to challenge hate that has no place in 2026, and make sure Clarington is welcoming and safe for everyone.

We move forward with the stubborn hope that homophobic, transphobic and biphobic attitudes can be confronted, unlearned and changed. I look forward to the day when I do not have to state the obvious: hate is wrong, and everyone deserves to feel safe to live authentically in their community.”
