New program brings isolated seniors together, thanks to $14,640 federal grant

As Ontario celebrates Seniors Month this June, the Municipality of Clarington is proud to announce more opportunities for older adults to get out and connect through The Social Spoon, a new community initiative supported in part by a $14,640 grant from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. This welcoming program brings seniors together through shared meals, conversation, and everyday learning, helping to reduce social isolation and strengthen community connections – particularly for those who may be living alone, new to the community, or facing barriers to connection.

“Tell your friends and neighbours to pull up a chair as we build community around the kitchen table. We’re inviting Clarington’s older adults to come out and try something new, all while creating a more inclusive community that empowers people of all ages. We can’t wait to dish out these new classes for them, thanks to the generous support of the Canadian Government,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

Classes are free to participate in or offered at a low cost. Summer sessions include:

Three Clarington seniors at a luncheon in the 55+ Active Adults Centre.

The Municipality of Clarington is actively pursuing valuable external funding opportunities, reducing dependency on the property tax base while supporting the delivery of meaningful municipal services. Clarington thanks the Government of Canada for supporting the delivery of engaging, inclusive programs that strengthen the community.
