Statement from Mayor Adrian Foster on Red Dress Day

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.

“Today on Red Dress Day, we honour and remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S). We stand in solidarity with survivors and families and Indigenous communities who continue to call for truth, justice and accountability for the thousands of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who have gone missing or been murdered across Canada.

We display red dresses in public spaces, so we never forget the pain of these losses. We cannot be bystanders to the ongoing impact of gender-based and colonial violence. We must work together for meaningful change that creates a community and a country where Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people are safe, respected and honoured.

To learn more, please visit the National Inquiry website and listen to the voices of Indigenous-led organizations and families who continue to work to end this nationwide crisis.”
