Temperance Street to close overnight for Veterans’ Crosswalk reinstallation

Temperance Street will be closed between King Street and Church Street in Bowmanville from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, until approximately 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, while crews replace the damaged Veterans’ Crosswalk. Poor weather may affect the installation date. Drivers are asked to follow posted signs and use alternate routes while the work is underway.

The Veterans’ Crosswalk, originally installed in fall 2025, experienced significant wear over the winter months. Through Staff Report PDS-051-26, Council approved replacing it with a simplified design using an alternative material that is more durable and better suited to winter maintenance conditions.
The Municipality consulted with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 on the updated design, which uses the commemorative crosswalk template provided by the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command. The crosswalk is being replaced at no cost to the Municipality following issues with the durability of the original material.
