What's Open and Closed on Canada Day, July 1, 2026

Wednesday, July 1 Facility Closures

  • Diane Hamre Recreation Complex and Orono Park Pool will be open from noon to 5 p.m. for swimming and drop-in activities. Check our drop-in activity schedule for Canada Day drop-in times.
  • Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex Hall and washrooms will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. for Canada Day celebrations. The remainder of the facility will remain closed, and regular programs will be cancelled.
  • The Municipal Administrative Centre, Hampton Operations Centre, Clarington Animal Shelter, and all other recreation facilities will be closed.

Please note:  While our offices will be closed on Canada Day, Municipal Law Enforcement Officers and Public Works staff will remain on duty to monitor and respond to urgent service requests and complaints.

If you have a concern that requires immediate attention, our team will do their best to assist during its scheduled hours. Non-urgent matters will be assessed on Thursday, July  2. For after-hours emergencies, please call 905-433-1234. 

Canada Day Road Closures

Clarington is celebrating Canada Day with big celebrations in Bowmanville and Newcastle. Some local roads will be closed to accommodate the festivities.

Canada Day in Clarington

Come out and celebrate Canada Day with an evening packed with entertainment, activities, and good times with friends and family. The festivities kick off Wednesday, July 1, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, located at 2440 Highway 2 in Bowmanville. End the night with a bang—fireworks light up the sky at 10 p.m.!

The following roads will be closed on July 1 for the celebration:

  • Brookhill Boulevard, between Green Road and Clarington Boulevard and Clarington Boulevard, between Stevens Road and Brookhill Boulevard, from June 30 at 8 p.m. to July 1 at 11 p.m.
  • Stevens Road, between Clarington Boulevard and Bowmanville Avenue, July 1 from 4 p.m. to midnight.
  • Limited access to Uptown Avenue on July 1.

Canada Day in Newcastle

Canada Day in downtown Newcastle will be bigger than ever this year. Bring your family to downtown Newcastle from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 28 for a multicultural street festival with vendors, artisans, live music and more!

The following roads will be closed for the festival:

  • Mill Street North from King Avenue to Wilmot Street from 7 a.m. on June 26 to 6 p.m. on June 30
  • Mill Street South from King Avenue to Emily Street and King Avenue from Baldwin Street to Brookhouse Drive from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 28.
