- Tax payments can be made at most banks or financial institutions, including online and telephone banking. A banking fee may apply.
- Your account number is the 15-digit roll number shown on your tax bill.
- At most financial institutions, when setting up the bill payee, the payee name will be either Clarington Tax or Clarington Ont, Municipality-Tax
- Your bill payment stub is required to pay at your bank branch.
Payment Options
The Municipality of Clarington offers many convenient ways for you to pay your property taxes, including online, by phone, by mail, in person, at your bank or by pre-authorized payment. See details about each payment method below.
We offer four pre-authorized payment plans.
- Monthly Plan
Payments are withdrawn monthly on the first of each month from December to November. - Instalment Plan
The instalment amount is withdrawn from your account on the due dates shown on your tax bill. - Supplementary Plan
A monthly plan to prepare for supplementary taxes on newly constructed homes. - Arrears Plan
A monthly payment arrangement plan. Penalty and interest charges will apply.
Signing up for a pre-authorized payment plan
- Submit a pre-authorized payment application form or
- Contact Taxation Services at 905-623-3379 ext. 2650 to discuss start-up requirements.
Changing bank account information
If you are currently enrolled in the pre-authorized payment plan and your bank information changes, please complete the Pre-Authorized Payment - Change of Banking Information. Requests must be submitted 14 days before the next withdrawal date.
Cancelling pre-authorized payment plans
To cancel your pre-authorized payment plan, complete a cancellation form or send an email to Taxation Services. If you sell your home, it is your responsibility to submit a request in writing to cancel. Requests must be submitted 14 days before the next withdrawal date.

Pay your property taxes by credit card, Interac e-transfer, in-person at a post office using cash or debit, and PayPal, all through PaySimply.ca. PaySimply.ca is a secure, third-party Canadian payment provider.
Enter the amount of taxes owing and before the payment is processed, you will be notified of the service fee. Service fees are calculated based on the amount of tax owing and the method of payment. PaySimply retains all service fees. You will receive an email confirmation of your transaction and the amount paid, including service fees.

We accept post-dated cheques. There is a 24-hour drop box on the north side of the building (Church Street accessible ramp entrance).
To pay in person, you will need your tax bill or photo ID. We accept debit and cheque payments.
Taxation Services is located on the main floor of the Municipal Administrative Centre at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville. The building is wheelchair accessible from the Church Street entrance.
If a mortgage company is responsible for paying your taxes, we must receive written notice from your mortgage company for the Municipality to provide information directly to them. Contact Taxation Services to confirm that this written notice has been received or review your final tax bill to ensure their name is correctly indicated.
Mortgage companies indicated on the tax bill will also receive payment information. You will only receive a final tax bill for your records.
If your mortgage company is not shown, please contact them immediately to request the written notice be issued.
If you don't receive a tax notice
Failure to receive a tax notice does not eliminate the responsibility for the payment of taxes and penalties. If you are responsible for paying property taxes and do not receive a notice, please contact Taxation Services at 905-623-3379 ext. 2650
