Beginning the week of June 23, 2025, reconstruction will begin on George Street West (from North Street to Manvers Road) and George Street East (from Mill Street North to Beaver Street North) in Newcastle. The work is expected to take approximately 20 weeks to complete. Please note that timelines are approximate and may vary depending on weather and other factors.
This project includes the replacement of aging watermain infrastructure, upgrades to stormwater drainage, curb and sidewalk improvements, and a full road reconstruction. These upgrades are necessary to address ongoing issues related to road deterioration and inadequate drainage, and to improve safety and functionality for all users.
During construction, the road will be closed to through traffic but will remain open to local traffic. Access to properties for vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained, except for short periods when work directly in front of driveways or walkways is taking place. Garbage and recycling collection, as well as deliveries, will continue without interruption.
We understand that construction can be disruptive and appreciate your patience as we complete these important upgrades. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
A Public Information Centre was held on Tuesday, November 5 at 7 p.m. The session provided more details on the project, addressed public comments and allowed residents to ask questions.
