The Library may have closed its doors to their physical branches, but their virtual branch is open 24/7.
The Library is continuing to work in providing learning, literacy, and leisure to the community during this difficult time, and to help people continue to connect while obeying stay-at-home orders and practicing social distancing.
“Access to our online content has never been easier,” says Steven Cooke, Clarington Public Library, Museums, & Archives Board Chair. “And I encourage everyone to take the time to check out eBooks, stream a movie, or enjoy a virtual storytime from the comfort of their own home using free Library resources.”
While eBooks, downloadable audiobooks, streaming media, and electronic resources for enjoyment and learning have been available for free through Clarington Public Library for some time, the Library has now introduced eCards to encourage those without a Library card to sign up and gain access to the wealth of Library content and resources online. In addition to eCards, Library staff are working remotely to provide virtual programs such as storytimes, book clubs, and STEAM challenges.
“Our staff are adapting to this new service model and finding innovative ways to deliver some of our community’s favourite services online,” says Linda Kent, CEO of Clarington Public Library, Museums, & Archives. “They are collaborating virtually to provide ongoing programs and services to our members.”
The Library strives to continue to be a destination for free family fun in Clarington, connecting with the community through its website and social media channels. A dedicated ePrograms portal has been created to link people with the Library’s virtual presence. Connect with the Library on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with @ClaringtonLib, and don’t worry about those library items you’ve already got at home: “Due dates will continue to be extended until we are able to re-open,” Linda Kent reminds us, “enjoy the items as long as you need to until then.”
