Public Open House for Regional Official Plan Amendment for Protected Major Transit Station Areas

Whitby, Ontario – As part of Envision Durham, the Region of Durham is considering an amendment to the Regional Official Plan (ROP) to implement policies that support transit-oriented development within Protected Major Transit Station Areas (PMTSAs) across the region. PMTSAs are generally defined as the area within an approximate 500 to 800 metre radius of a transit station, representing a 10 minute walk. A virtual Public Open House and Statutory Public Meeting will be held to provide interested parties the opportunity to learn more and provide feedback.

When: A virtual Public Open House will be held on August 24, 2021 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will feature a presentation from the Region’s Planning staff and the opportunity to ask staff questions about the proposed amendment. A virtual Statutory Public Meeting will take place on September 7, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. to provide interested parties with the opportunity to provide Durham’s Planning & Economic Development Committee feedback relative to the amendment. Why: The proposed PMTSA policies and delineations are intended to support intensification and transit oriented development. Undertaking this amendment is in accordance with the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe and the Planning Act. The Region has decided to advance this amendment to the Regional Official Plan to delineate and plan for PMTSAs in advance of the balance of its overall municipal comprehensive review.
