Spring thaw is a stinky mess

While most people are sensitive to geosmin, more commonly known as the earth smell – that musty smell we associate with spring. It’s caused by bacteria produced in healthy soil. In Clarington, many of you are also smelling and maybe stepping in dog poop and garbage left behind during the winter months. Our Public Works crews will be out preparing our parks and public spaces for use. But this is our community to enjoy and share. If you own a dog, it is your responsibility to pick up poop and dispose of it properly year-round so the rest of us don’t step in it. Our parks and public spaces are not a dumping ground for pet waste and garbage; please be responsible and help keep our community clean.
