Community Improvement Grants

There are seven grant programs available for those who want to make changes and upgrades to buildings in downtown Bowmanville.

Building Permit Fee Grant Program

This grant program helps the property owner pay for the cost of the development process. The grant helps offset the amount charged in Building Permit Fees to a limit of $3,000.

Site Plan Control Fee Grant Program

This grant program assists commercial zone property owners with the cost of the development process. The grant helps offset the Site Plan Control Fee to a limit of $3,000.

Signage Grant Program

This grant program helps business owners with the cost of designing and installing new signs within the Community Improvement Plan area. It provides a subsidy equivalent to 50 per cent of the amount of the new sign or a $2,000 maximum, whichever is smaller.

Heritage Building Façade Improvement Grant Program

This grant assists with the cost of the rehabilitation process, especially for properties that are on the Municipal Heritage Resource Inventory. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 33 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

Upgrade to Building Code Grant Program

This grant program helps property owners with the cost of building improvements required to bring older buildings into conformity with the Ontario Building Code. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 33 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

Reconstruction Grant Program

This grant program helps property owners with financing the cost of the reconstruction after property loss caused by natural disaster providing a one-time subsidy to a maximum of $10,000. All buildings that are reconstructed must be designed in keeping with the historical context of Bowmanville and must fit into the heritage streetscape.

Accessibility Grant Program

The grant program assists property and business owners with the cost of providing accessibility improvements. The improvements are geared towards making the building more accessible while maintaining its heritage character. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 50 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

The Community Improvement Plan for Courtice encompasses lands along Highway 2 (King Street) from Townline Road to Courtice Road. This area is a Regional Corridor and was identified in the Official Plan as a priority for the development of a Community Improvement Plan.

The Courtice Main Street CIP provides incentives when certain performance standards are achieved.

The purpose of the Courtice Main Street Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is:

1. To build upon the direction set out in the land use policies and urban design guidelines of the Official Plan for mixed-use urbanization of the regional corridor.
2. To enable the Municipality to respond to increased development interest and community growth in Courtice by establishing a framework of financial incentives to promote property consolidations, redevelopment and intensification along the Highway 2 corridor.
3. To develop an implementation plan for the Black Creek Trail.

To obtain financial incentives as detailed in the CIP, a case study outlining how the proposed development meets the performance standards will be required.

This grant program helps property owners by providing a one-time subsidy to a maximum of $10,000 for new construction in keeping with the streetscape, historical context and other requirements as set out in the CIP.

Building Façade Improvement Grant Program

This grant program is intended to assist property owners with the financing of existing
building façade improvements. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 50 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

Upgrade to Building Code Grant Program

This grant program helps property owners with the cost of building improvements required to bring older buildings into conformity with the Ontario Building Code. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 50 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

This grant program helps property owners with improvements to existing building façades. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 50 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

Upgrade to Building Code Grant Program

This grant program helps property owners with the cost of building improvements required to bring older buildings conformity with the Ontario Building Code. The grant provides a subsidy equivalent to 50 per cent of the amount to a maximum of $10,000.

Brownfield Project Grant Program

This grant program helps property owners by providing a one-time subsidy to assist with the cost of the construction on a brownfield property to a maximum of $10,000. New buildings are to be designed in keeping with the historical context of Orono.
