Accessible Documents
Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), information posted to public-facing websites must be in an accessible format. The Municipality of Clarington requires that all contractors and vendors provide documents that meet or exceed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA.
Accessible PDF documents
As part of Adobe Acrobat's accessibility check, several manual checks will be necessary when ensuring a PDF is accessible.
- Verify the reading order. Every item on every page must be read in the intended order.
- Verify that all images use meaningful alternate text to convey their meaning.
- Verify that hyperlinks are correct and that the link text uses meaningful language. Do not use "click here."
Documents provided to the Municipality that are not fully accessible will be returned to the contractor or vendor.
Document remediation
If a consultant is unable to produce an accessible document, they will be required to have it professionally remediated at their expense. Contact the Accessibility Coordinator at 905-623-3379 ext. 2131 if you need assistance finding a professional remediation service.
