Bowmanville West Urban Centre and Major Transit Station (GO Train) Area Secondary Plan Update

Project description

The Bowmanville West Urban Centre and Major Transit Station (GO Train) Area is being planned to include a mix of uses with higher population densities and increased building heights to support the GO Train. Provincial and Regional policy supports this plan. 

This area will include a diversity of housing, shopping, and services, along with new open spaces and boulevards. Walkable streets and sustainable design will create a vibrant neighbourhood where young families and older adults will enjoy living and working. In addition, improved cycling and pedestrian opportunities will enhance community connections.

The new GO Train station and the related development are key drivers of responsible growth for this area, enhancing the Bowmanville West Urban Centre's position as the largest commercial hub in Clarington.

On January 22, 2024, the Municipality presented the draft Bowmanville West Secondary Plan update, and the accompanying Zoning at a Statutory Public Meeting. Copies of these documents and the public meeting materials are available below.

GO Train and Transportation hubs

In anticipation of the GO train extension, Clarington is developing a high-level vision for the transportation hubs around the future Courtice and Bowmanville GO stations. The Municipality wants to ensure that development around the future stations is adequately planned, so these areas are more than just train stations; they also become destinations.
