Albert Street and Durham Street Reconstruction and Watermain Replacement

The Municipality of Clarington is planning to reconstruct and urbanize Albert Street and Durham Street in Bowmanville, between Duke Street and Brown Street (approximately 240m in length each) in spring 2027, pending Council approval. 

The proposed work includes:  

• Replacing the watermain along Albert Street and Durham Street between Duke Street and Brown Street. 
• Extending he existing storm sewer along Albert Street between Duke Street and Brown Street.   
• Reconnecting existing water services to the new watermain. 
• Installing a 1.5-metre-wide concrete sidewalk on Durham Street along the south side, between Duke Street and Ontario Street. 
• Installing a 1.5-metre-wide concrete sidewalk on Albert Street along the north side between Duke Street and Ontario Street. 
• Relocating utilities as needed, to support the road reconstruction and servicing upgrades.  

The proposed design will avoid potential impacts to private properties as much as possible; however, local driveway aprons, front yards, and some vegetation will be affected. The Municipality will reinstate the driveway aprons and front yards to match existing conditions.

Status and next steps

The project is currently progressing through the detailed design stage and is expected to begin construction in spring 2027 (pending Council approval).
