The Municipality of Clarington is starting a review of its Official Plan – the road map that guides how Clarington will grow to 2051. Learn more about the project, share your feedback, and find out how you can stay informed at www.clarington.net/OPReview.
Current Official Plan
The Official Plans are the Municipality’s primary long-range planning documents and provide a framework for land-use decision-making. They are created through community input and represent Council’s vision for growth and change in our community.
The Official Plans include policies that provide for a more urban community, create walkable neighbourhoods, build great public spaces, and enable complete streets designed for people and not just cars. They guide development to ensure Clarington is a well-rounded community with jobs and services for residents that also protects key environmental and agricultural lands.
The Clarington Official Plan was originally approved in 1996. The most recent update was approved in June of 2017. An Office Consolidation of the Clarington Official Plan was prepared in November 2024 and is available below.
As of January 1, 2025, Envision Durham, the new Regional Official Plan, became part of the Clarington Official Plan.
